I just noticed Mocha has a runny eye. Here is what it looks like:

        Bad eye:

He keeps closing it like this too. I’ve noticed him closing it for a couple of days now.

        Good Eye:

I am wondering if it is his teeth. He had x-rays a few months ago on his teeth and they were only slightly over grown and they said they weren’t bad enough to trim unless they caused him problems. I think I should take him into the vet but sadly I don’t have a good vet here. I have been to 3 different vets and I finally found one I like and she was an exotic vet. Then the next time I called they told me she left the clinic to further her courier in acupuncture. I do not like the other vet they refer people with rabbits to go to. I went to her when mocha got x-rays and I felt like I knew more then her. She kept saying “I don’t know what to do. Maybe try and make him eat more sticks.” I am like… uh, that wont help with his molars. Grr! There is one other vet at this clinic who is younger and seems to be more knowledgeable (or at least doesn’t say “I don’t know” all the time) but she is out of town apparently and I am sort of afraid she is leaving the clinic too. I do not trust this vet and I would rather not go to her. There are other clinics in town but we went to the other one and they didn’t even know what critical care was… What should I do?

I would guess since he has had teeth problems in the past, it would be his teeth. Sorry to hear about the vets. I would call any local rabbit rescues for vet recommendations. Look a bit farther away too. You may have to drive for a while but having a good vet is worth it.
Hope you get this figured out.

I have looked around the area and there are no rabbit savvy vets close by. We live in northern WI in the middle of nowhere. The vet I go to now is about 30min away the town next to us (about 45min) has none either. I am at a loss. I don’t know what to do. I really don’t want to have this vet put Mocha under. I am not comfortable with it. She knows nothing!

The closest rabbit rescue is over 5 hours away. I want to go to my old vet but that’s over a 2 hour drive but I doubt my parents would let me do that.

We were planing on leaving tomorrow overnight but now I am afraid to leave him.

It may be. Have you also checked to make sure that his eyelashes are stuck or curled into his eye? That happens with Bobby sometimes.

I don’t however think this serious enough for you not to go out of town….

                  Sarita: I will check.

Do you think he’d be ok until Monday? He’s eating and acting normal?

Just checked on him and his eye looks completely normal. I don’t know if Lulu cleaned it up for him or what.

He could have just gotten a piece of hay in his eye or something. Glad to hear he’s better now!

Aw look at that grumpy face!

Mocha, have you tried search the name of the vet you did like? I know they said she went to go into acupuncture but she could still be practicing. A former practice may not always have the details or willing to offer them to a former partner or employee.

His eye looked a little runny again afterwards but now looks fine again.

Jersey: Yes I have! I’ve searched all over and everywhere online says she still works at the old vet.. I am thinking she might have gone back to school. I am not sure though. I will keep searching periodically to see if her name pops up.

It really makes me nervous that there are no rabbit vets in my area though…

                                Understandable!

What about asking via Facebook for recommendations? Is there a WI HRS page or anything?

It could be his teeth but it could just be a blocked tear duct. Bindi’s ducts get clogged up and he gets a runny eye like that.

I’m sorry to hear the vet you like has left. That happened to me once, it’s rough.

Jersey: There is a WHRS Facebook page but they all recommended the vet I do not like and don’t trust…

I worry frequently about how far I have to travel to see the rabbit or emergency vet, 2 hrs minimum. That’s with no traffic and stretches at 100mph. I hope you are able to find one closer to you.
