        Just wondering what the consensus is on salt licks.  Helpful, harmful, or neither?  I’d think that the pellets would provide all neccessary sodium in the diet, but what about just offering salt to increase water intake?

        General opinions on salt licks/wheels wanted.

          Adding salt to increase water intake would be.. kind of against what you want to do, as the salt dehydrates. The extra water would be to just make up for what the salt is doing. To increase my bunnies water intake, all I do is make sure their veggies are nice and damp when they get them every evening.

          In my opinion, salt/mineral licks are just a waste of money if the bun is getting pellets.

            I think to increase water intake you want to have nice fresh water.

              So what are either of your opinions on salt licks?  Neither of you said anything about the topic at hand.

                Smokey loves salt licks, so I keep one in her cage. They’re only .50 at most pet stores. But she’s had the same one for awhile. She only goes to it every now and then, not like I’m stuffing her full of salt D;

                  I don’t use them, just read around that they aren’t really useful or needed. Kinda like a lot of junk food treats they sell that aren’t good at all for our small animal friends.

                  Interesting though…my mom adds salt to our horses grain to “get him to drink more water” and I don’t understand either…since salt dehydrates to make you thirsty? Horses also have salt licks. I just give fresh water 1-2 times a day and everyone drinks alot!

                    I got one for lulu because she was liking the floor after I cleaned it with vinegar and water so I thought when wanted more salt ( I didn’t want her getting a sliver in her tong, haha) I gave one to her, she took a few licks and hasn’t touched it sense. So it really depends on you boy. If he likes it then good for him, if not, oh well lol.

                    just make sure you get the white ones I don’t think the mineral licks are good, but I could be wrong.

                      Sure I did I said they are pretty much a waste of money if you feed pellets, thats my opinion on them lol.
