        HUNTER?

        or GENTLE SOUL?

My main concern with bringing home a bunny, was my 6 year old Beagle, Odie. I’ve had him since he was 2 years old and he’s always been great with our cats and dogs, and even turtle. I’ve never known how he would do with Small Animals though, especially Rabbits, the animal his instincts tell him to hunt and kill. At our old house he was bringing me dead moles all the time that he had sniffed out in our backyard, hunted and killed. He is AKC registered and his mother AND father were used for rabbit hunting, and were reportedly VERY good. Obviously the instinct is within him. You can see, my concern was definitely a reasonable one.
But, I also had to look past Odies genetics and remember the type of dog he is. This is the dog that our cats have attacked sooo many times, and yet he will NOT fight back, he refuses to ever even growl at them, no matter what. This is the dog that, when he hears a kittens “mew”, he searches the house up and down and back again until he can find the kitten and give it kisses. This dog does not have a single mean bone in his short body.
interested in how things turned out after Dallas came home and they(eventually) met?
        Well, here you go:

I just took these about 15 minutes ago. I guess he’s a gentle soul! They even play together sometimes. Dallas will binky and zoom around my room in a very big circle as fast as he can run, Odie stands watching in the “want to play” stance, then Dallas will stop and chase Odies tail so Odie spins in circles. It’s too cute! They’re a very entertaining pair, and nobody can believe it when they see a beagle and rabbit sleeping back to back in my room!
and just so nobody bashes me for being irresponsible and careless, I did not just heave Odie in there with Dallas on their first meeting, I took all precautions needed, and Odie and Dallas are NEVER left in together unsupervised, no matter how great of a dog he is, it only takes one accident..to get a little to excited, or accidently step on him.

Every dog is different and I’m very glad things worked out. It’s good for the bun to have a playmate.

Oh, and I love Odie’s pedicure.

I agree! (Who can criticise a dog with such impeccable taste? In friends and cosmetics!)

Adorable pics!! I love the second last pic! Too cute!

I would love to have a little dog. I love a lot of the terrier breeds (especially Jack Russels) and would adore having a dog to walk and play with. But I worry, as you were worried, about their hunting instincts. I would hate to bring home a dog, fall in love with it and be stuck with a dog who terrorizes my bunnies. As you all know, Stormy rules the house here. If he ain’t happy, ain’t no one happy, lol. I don’t dare falling in love with a dog and be faced with having to re-home it. That would break my heart. So I guess I’ll stay just a bunny/cat household.

My beagle puppys are great with Hammer! I toke the time to get them somewhat bonded but they are till supervised and always will be. Molly is better then sage however. They are sisters and both the parents are hunters. Sage has gone before since she is my moms dog and Molly is mine. She was good at hunting but hasnt shown aggression or anything with Hammer. Still i dont trust her as much. The only thing we have to work on is rough play. Sometimes i have to remind them to calm down, “Molly, be easy its a baby” in a baby talk voice lol. I dont have pics with Hammer bu i still gotta put pictures of them because they are just SO cute! first is Molly, second is Sage.

aww I just love beagles *squeezes them*

my grandfather raises them, and breeds them, teaches them how to hunt and sells them for big bucks. he hunts mostly deer *ducks tomatoes* so don’t be alarmed. He loves my little buns.

but I grew up around baby beagle puppies, and would always love going to his house and seeing the new arrivals! I think they are one of the cutest dogs as puppies!

LOVE the red fingernails, what a diva.

LOL I didn’t think anybody would notice his pedicure! It needs to be touched up now, but it looked even better when it was very first done. I…got a little bored, and he was game for some nail painting.. hehe.

                      Pam, that is adorable!

Hahah they are great nails!! I thought they were those ‘hot paws’ glue on nails!! That’s way more talent that you painted them!!

Great job with introducing the two of them!

Oh-no can you really get glue on nails for dogs?????????!
That looks like a beautiful friendship! Well done for taking the time to introduce them properly. If this unlikely pair get along so well, gives me hope for humankind. Just think if people were introduced in a secure environment, without preconceived ideas, how well we could get along despite colour, religion. nationality etc.
