Hi I read a post where someone said they had a little scorpian vacuum that they used to vacuum their bunny area daily. I was looking at reviews and a couple people said that the little vaccum was quite noisy. Now I don’t want to deafen or frighten the bunnies (I’m actually pretty sure Fern would be fine with it, but Thistle might get scared) But I also don’t want to break the bank buying an ultra expensive quiet vacuum.

I would even be fine with getting a larger vacuum as long as it didn’t break the bank (I would probably be buying it with my own money because it would probably be and exclusively bunny vacuum.)

At the moment I move the bunnies to the bathroom when I vacuum, but it would be nice if I could just vacuum a little often and maybe not have to do a big vacuum.

So does anyone know of anything like this? It is mostly to pick up fur and the stray hay, because my bunnies right now are shedding like mad things.

EDIT: sorrry if this is supposed to go in the lounge section

I can recommend this one that I have. It is the size of two flemmies.

          http://www.eureka.com/MightyMite-3670G-canister-vacuum

It cost under a $100 and has been serving my house, two dogs and the rabbits for two years now. It can be fixed as you can order parts for it. It takes bags which is what you want for pet vacuuming (fur and hay fines plug up filters badly.)

I looked at mine again and it is way smaller than two flemmis… more like one large rabbit. Anyways, it is tiny.

Hmmm, it looks good, is it relatively quiet?

I’m the one with the Scorpion vac, and yeah it is rather noisy.  However, Zeus literally will be jumping in and out of his cage WHILE I’m vacuuming it.  He’s not afraid of it at all, and thinks it’s a hilarious game when I’m on my hands and knees vacuuming his cage.. just loooves to pester me when I’m doing that. .

Zeus is a more laidback bun then most though, so I can definitely see how you’d want a quieter one.  Hope you can find something good!  I don’t know what I’d do without my little hand vac, I use it like 4 times a week.

I saw those swivel-sweepers on an infommercial recently and wondered how they’d tackle bunny poo + hay. They’re $100 though just for a carpet sweeper. It’s hard to know if these things are as good as they promote them to be.

I wonder if you could dampen the sound of a barrel style vacuum cleaner? I was thinking of a polystyrene box over the barrel part with gaps allowed for the hose and cord……but i could cause the motor to over heat. Mmmmm???

I don’t know how you’ll go finding a really quiet model MLW. Not anything that would have enough suction anyway. When you take the rabbit to the bathroom, do you have to carry them there? Could you get them there by running through a tunnel? They might be distracted enough by a tunnel and exploring at their leisure while you get in and clean. The other alternative miight be ear muffs for the bunnies… ;o) j/k

I had used the Eureka that I showed you here during a bonding session. In the link you can hear how loud it is.

                      Hi MLW

(dig)x(me)x(now) mentioned this in a thread in the lounge. Thought you’d be interested in a look.

I can’t recommend the shark sweeper. I bought that one last year (for way more than it was listed on the walmart site ). It does ok for small messes and quick pickups. But. The dust cup is TINY and the vacuum does NOT pick up hay or poop – just pushes everything around, including large balls of fur and carpet fuzz that the vacuum makes but doesn’t collect. It’s too small to do my entire apartment (700 sq ft) – I have to stop two or three times to empty the cup. Or rather, the vacuum stops when the cup get’s full. Or when the battery runs down. Oh, and I have long hair and for some reason this vacuum winds my loose hair around the beater brush (rather than sucking it up like every other vacuum I’ve used). I’m not sure if it’s because the beater brush has a smaller diameter than others or because the vacuum has less suction than others, but it literally knots long loose hair around the brush and eventually the brush stops spinning completley. So then I have to use my fingers and a pair of scissors and cut it all out. Blech. Spend a bit more $ on a higher quality product. I ended up having to buy another vacuum anyway.

Mmm…I’m confused as to why they even have a battery? Not like the carpet sweepers I remember. I guess it’s a good idea MLW to try before you buy. Take a little baggy of hay and poop along to the store….

I recently got a Miele S5 series vac. It has adjustable suction and the low ones are quiet but still pretty strong. I can’t post a video to demonstrate as camera is out of action. They can be pricey but not as much as a dyson. I got mine second hand and barely used so I did ok. I also knew it couldn’t have been too old as the model hadn’t been available for overly long.
