Where did you purchase your rabbit from?

Also, how old is she? It is probably something your vet will have to tell you (even they have a hard time telling sometimes). Unless you have adoption papers, you might want to ask where it was done and contact that vet for any record of the surgery.

A vet will sometimes be able to feel the scar from the surgery, but we’ve had at least one bunny that went to get spayed and when they opened her up they discovered that it had been done already.  Some vets put a blue tatoo on the bellies of animals that have been spayed.

7 weeks old is far, far too young to spay – in fact, I don’t think their uterus has even developed.

I don’t think she would be spayed.
Usually females can be spayed MINIMUM of 4 months…so… 7 weeks…
I think they lied to you…

Well, the reason I ask where you purchased her is that I understand that Petco does spay and neuter all their rabbits and it is at a VERY YOUNG age – so can you please let us know where you got her from?

Yes – if you let us know where you got the bunny from we may be able to help you get some ideas about how to find out if she has been spayed. You might want to take her to your vet and see if they can do some kind of visual exam of her tummy area to see if they can find a spay scar. I would imagine that if they shave her tum for a surgery, they would see a spay scar if it is there. That is what happened with one of our bunnies that got spayed.

are spays at that young of an age even effective?  i know very little about the actual physiology of that area.  it’s not possible that they did surgery but that it might not have worked, is it?  or that they did a partial spay?

Oh, another thing I forgot.  if a vet does the spay, they will issue a spay/neuter cetrificate with the doctor’s name, the animals’s name and the date and place of the procedure.  The vet’s office will also have records.  Can you find out from the place you got the bunny who did the spay and contact them directly?

i didn’t get any kind of certificate.  i just got the bill and aftercare instructions.  is this something i should contact my vet and ask about?  Meadow isn’t going anywhere of course, but is this something i need?

For a bun, this wouldn’t be much of an issue.  With dogs in particular, some apartments require S/N certs for dogs living there, and some municipalities also require S/N so the certs are important.  I am pretty sure as a rescue we are required to keep the S/N certs for any animals we adopt out.  For an individual, I don’t think it matters.

It my area they don’t give out spay/neuter certficates for rabbits either, individual or rescue – not sure of dogs or cats though so I don’t have any.

WEll i got her from lynns fish and pets on south florida avenue [ lakeland, florida] and they could have a vet working there and i could call and ask about it, theres a card with their number on it. i also noticed she had a baldish spot and a little round scab… i got scared at first becuase it looked like she got bit by something, which was my first reaction… is that what the spay-scar looks like? its gone now…

It’s possible that is the spay scar. I would definitely make further inquiries though. Unless you actually see a spay scar I don’t believe there are any other ways for you to know.

My vet has done surgeries on already spayed rabbits (unknown to me of course) and that was the only way she could tell when she opened them up. She then of course just restitched them up since they were already spayed.

Wow, and if she is spayed and was spayed younger than 7 weeks, wha?? Just out of curiosity – What about developmental issues that could arise from such a young spay. I know that some vets neuter bunnies early, but I didn’t realize they would ever spay that early.
