Since I’m a little worried about Edson I got some stuff called Infants’ Mylicon which are drops JUST IN CASE!  It has Simethicone 20 mg. as the only active ingredient.  Is this the right stuff?  How much would I give him if he weighs 4 lbs.???? I just want this on hand in case of GI stasis. Thanks.

I’m pretty sure that’s the right stuff. That’s what I have.

Knowltons, I have pretty much the sames stuff and I give between 0.25-0.5 ml (I am quite sure ml=cc) a dose. I’d suggest to start on the low end of a dose and watch and see how it does…I honestly think you don’t have to worry about overdosing, but it’d be prudent to get the same results with less, especially if they don’t like the taste (which for some reason, mine like it…)

                  Yes, 1cc=1ml.

You can give up to 1cc/1ml of simethicone every couple of hours with no ill effects.

The dose ^^ 1cc/ml is pure semethicone, not the suspended liquid (baby gas med) right?

This stuff is Infants Mylicon - Drops – 20 mg simethicone.  It’s the only kind I could find and I searched a few places. For babies under 24lbs they say to give 0.3 ml.  So each 20 mg of simethicone = 0.3 ml of a dose. Edson is 4lbs. So Osprey is this correct to give up to 1cc?

Oops, I should have been more clear.  The 1cc/ml dose is of the baby gas products like Mylicon.  Simethicone is not actually a drug, it is not absorbed by the body, so an overdose is unlikely.  The theory is that it reduces gas by making the bubbles combine into bigger ones that are easier to pass (or something like that.)  The simethicone itself simply passes through the digestive system, hopefully reducing gas pain along the way.

At BunnyFest this year, one of the audience people asked Dr. Harvey about simethicone, and she was lukewarm on using it.  She said that bunnies do not get gas bubbles like humans do, and that she doubted that simethicone had any effect in the intestines of a rabbit.  On the other hand, she said that there is no danger in using it, so she does not recommend using it or not using it.  I have used it a few times on my bunnies, and it has worked a couple of times and not worked a couple of times.  Who knows if the times that it did work, the bunnies would have come out of it on their own anyway.

                            I’d do .5 first
