Sores/Cut on Rabbit Mouth

  I was giving my bunny pets this evening and noticed these sores/cuts on his mouth. We’re planning to take him to the vet this weekend but is that too long? Is there anything to help him feel better in the meantime?

  There’s not a lot you can do unless you happen to have some meloxicam (metacam, loxicom and other brand names) on hand.
  
  Do you think another bun could have injured him? If so, separate the buns for now.
  
  Is your bun eating and drinking and pooping like normal? If not, you should try to get him seen as soon as possible.
  
  Sores around the mouth/nostrils can be a symptom of rabbit syphilis. (It is not the same type of syphilis that can affect humans, so you don’t have to worry about that).

  Yes, atypical syphilis (which is more common than previously thought) can present as sores around the nose and mouth. Unless your bunny was partaking in some “spicy” hay (aka power cords)… it’s possible this could be a burn too.

  I agree with everyone else’s responses — waiting until this weekend would likely be fine unless you notice your rabbit stops eating or there are other emergency signs beyond the scabs themselves.
