broken nail, but only partially?

  Hey! This afternoon I was checking my new bunny’s nails today, and I noticed one partially broken off. It’s pretty far past the quick, but the broken section is still very much attached. I was just wondering if I should clip it or let it be. He isn’t limping or anything, and it doesn’t look super bad, it just doesn’t look comfortable. Thanks for the help!

  If there is a partially attached piece of nail you could cut it off, but it might bleed. It will eventually fall off, or the bun will remove it himself.

  Agreed that if it is not in quick territory, you can just clip it off so it’s not a snagging hazard. Otherwise, keep an eye on it until it’s in clipping range!

  Yes, I would leave it if the quick were to become exposed when removed. Let the quick heal over first. Oftentimes, the piece will break off on it’s own and the quick will have healed over enough that it isn’t painful at that point.
