Well, after all my Charlie girl has been through…. Just 5 weeks ago tooth filing and an abscessed molar pulled, we are dealing with the unbelievable.
She had  2 days of 12-14 hours without passing any stool then would go tons. Concerned about GI stasis which we have dealt with before,  into vet we go who felt a mass in her abdomen. Xray showed mass which she thought possibly could be intestinal or maybe a dropped kidney. Ultrasound was scheduled for following day.
We received the results yesterday that it looks like she has a uterine adenocarcinoma. Our vet questioned the radiology report. Upon conferring with him, she was told he has seen this in bunnies who are spayed. It happens when not all of the uterine tissue was removed.

So the procedure that was suppose to protect her from uterine cancer was done incorrectly and we are now here.

Our options are surgery… which our vet feels should be successful as long as this mass has not attached itself to her intestines or other organs. Radiologist could not see that it had, but also said he can’t say for sure it hasn’t.

The other option is to keep her comfortable as long as possible.

Charlie just turned 6 years old. She is on pain med right now and with that she is feeling quite well and happy. She has a lot of life left in her.

Surgery is going to be more pricey than our vet thought, but she does believe Charlie has a good chance of recovery. We have decided to do surgery…And if when she gets in her tummy and things aren’t looking good, we will have her put to sleep right then.

Our vet is not the vet who spayed her. The vet who spayed her was suppose to be an excellent exotic rabbit vet. Our current vet is excellent, compassionate and so sad this has happened to our baby.

I just wanted to mention this for others to carefully watch their bunny girls for signs of uterine cancer or masses, even if they have been spayed.

Of course an official biopsy of the mass has not happened yet, but by all accounts it looks like this is what we are dealing with.
