Hello everyone! Has anyone seen this before or know what this is? It’s on the side of his foot. Please help!🙏🏻😞 He’s free roam and has plenty of beds and blankets he spends most of his time in the litter box and kitchen which has tile but he chooses to be on the floor and ignores everything eles. I had him for 6 yrs and this never happened before not until i started taking him to the vet. The crazy part is i took him for a physical and toe trim recently on Sept 22nd and vet said ntn about this. Only about his dental issues because i said he stopped eating hay so we have been taking care of that between xrays and dental visits and Bloodwork from sept 22nd until now and he has another upcoming appt on November 16th for Bloodwork and dental trim I’m completely overwhelmed and broke. I can’t understand how he missed this i feel that this vet is always suggesting other expensive tests just for money and now i have this problem 😭. Its the only exotics vet in the area. Next day i called the vet and they can’tsee him until Monday.

This is all the same foot? How is the other one? It does look like there is at least one puss pocket under there.

I agree it looks like there is a puss pocket there. Sometimes they can get poked in the foot by a sharp piece of hay and get an abscess from it.

If he just had bloodwork on Sept 22 I don’t see why he needs it again before his dental trim. Talk to your vet about only doing the essential things.

Hi yes all the pics are from one foot only. I called the vet and they only have a opening for Monday afternoon. Should i leave it be or put something on it? Also i have some left over pain meds from the dental trim visit i gave him some of that to help him through this weekend.

It’s good that you have a painkiller. I don’t think I’d dare do much with this foot until a vet has had a look at it. It does look infected so oral antibiotics are probably needed.

Until Monday, maybe just try to keep his area very clean, empty the litterboxes and renew the litter material.

I want to Thank you so much to those who commented.[gallery ids=",,"]

Update: took thumper to the vet and he said it wasnt sore hock that it seems to be more of a cysts. He asked to leave him there for few hours to look at it and clean it out then he also did his dental trim and when i had my fiancée pick him up he only gave antibiotics meds and a silver sulfa cream and said to hot compress it. he looks way worse then when he went in! It looks like a giant ball now. I asked the exotic vet group and they never answered my post not sure if I’m allowed to post again. The cream doesnt last because thumper will take the baby sock off and i just feel like its pointless because the cream isnt is staying on long enough. 😔

I’m glad you got him seen and the cysts cleaned out. If you got oral antibiotics for him, the foot might heal even without the silver sulfadine cream. Bandaging is always a problem with buns, they tend to remove any kind of bandage we try to put on. You can make an E-collar from a paper saucer and electrical tape and keep it on for an hour or two right after you’ve put on the cream and the sock. If he is licking his foot obsessively, an E-collar might be of need just to keep him from hurting himself by licking and/chewing at the wounded area all the time.

Did you get a painkiller for him? Pain relief can make a bun less inclined to lick/chew at a wound.

It’s good that this isn’t sore hocks! Sore hocks are notoriously difficult bc the bun has to put weight on the hocks pretty much all the time, and it’s tricky to keep the underside of the feet very clean.

                    Thank you for the update!

Thank you so much i will try that! Hopefully so he can atleast let the cream do its job for a bit. I’m really hoping it will heal until he wants to see him again in 2weeks. Yes, i have been giving some pain meds from his dental visit the first time when i noticed he had this problem but it is running low and i did tell the vet but he never gave me more i guess he’s waiting until i run out? Then ask for more? Anyways thank you so much for commenting!

When it comes to med refills/questions, I always recommend giving the vet a call ahead of time clarify, in case they weren’t aware you didn’t walk away with another supply (you wouldn’t want a gap day or two as they fill it!)

I usually had to give a day notice to the vet when requesting a refill. I am happy to hear the vet was able to clean things up. Hopefully it will heal up OK.
