A couple of weeks ago we took my 8-year-old lion head to the vet for a checkup. He’s starting to get an eye infection, so she gave us ciprofloxacin eye drops. He’s prone to eye infections and I gave him eye drops last year, but a different kind. About 20 minutes after giving him his second dose he looked a little off. For about 9 hours he sat in the same spot, didn’t or drink, didn’t sleep, and peed outside the litter box, which he never does. We called the vet who said there is no way the drops are related and that it’s just a coincidence, but I’m not sure. She gave us different eye drops and the same thing happened. Has anyone ever had this or something similar happen to their rabbit with eye drops?

My buns have never used it.

In case it helps… I, human, have had horrific neuro reactions to cipro (wasn’t used for eye). I also know many humans who have bad reactions (also wasn’t used for eye). For eyes, my buns have used Tobramycin, Olfloxacin, and a mix that includes Neomycin.

Anyone can have a reaction to any antibiotic. This includes rabbits. You just don’t know until it happens. If that would causes a reaction, then I would suggest trying a different drop.
