Hey party people! (I’m trying to be funny, sorry) It’s been a while since I was last here, I really need to check up here more often. Anyway I have a few questions, the first being how often should I clean Blossom and Thumper’s water bowls?
Just before I first got them (like 3 or 4 days before I got them) the research I did said to just rise and wipe out their water bowls twice a day which I have been doing but I found out people deep clean the water bowls and I want to do that but I don’t know how often I should.
Second question, how should I deep clean them? Do I use some kind of dish soap or just water and vinegar? (I heard some people do just water and vinegar but I also heard some people use dish soap.) If I should use dish soap what kind would be safe?

          Hello again, party girl 💃 😃 💃

I find water bowls need deep cleaning a lot more often in the summer than in the winter. When you feel the inside off a bowl he bowl with your fingers, you can feel if there’s a “slippiness” covering the bowlwall, almost like oil. That’s a bacterial film. Its completely normal but it does provide an excellent breeding ground for more bacteria, incl types you dont want your bun to ingest too much of.

I deep clean with a sponge, you know the ones that have one abrasive side? I clean it with warm water and normal dish washing liquid until all the slippiness is gone. Or I just run the bowl in the dishwasher, the detergent and heat will kill off pretty much anything.

I can see how some parents etc might object to running a pet’s dishes in the dishwasher though, but a designated kitchen sponge and washing-up liquid and/or vinegar will work equally well.
