        Hi everyone,

So my 3 year old lionhead was taken to the vet today to have a weird looking skin growth that looked like a cyst. It is hard, skin colored, and not painfully to her. The vet took a sample and looked under a microscope and said she doesn’t think it’s cancer but the cells look a little concerning. I was told to keep an eye on the growth and if it gets bigger to call and schedule a surgery to remove it. Has anyone else dealt with this? I’m really worried and feel so bad for Starlight. I know it’s not hurting her and she’s acting normal and eating normally too. Any input would be helpful. Thank you.

I forgot to mention the growth is above her tail  off to her left.

It’d be great if you could get us a photo of it!

How big is it? I take it its not painful if you touch it? Is it (somewhat) moveable under the skin or very firmly attached?

(Just asking because the more info we get, the better).

I’ve decided to have it removed. It’s the size of a chickpea. It’s on the outside and can be moved around. I’m super nervous about her surgery but I didn’t want to take any chances.

It does sound like best thing to have it removed. Its great that it can be moved around.

Having it removed sounds like a good idea. That also allows a closer examination of it to further understanding of what went on.

Yes, they will be doing a biopsy on it. Her surgery is February 15th, and since she loves my husband more he will be taking her. Hopefully all goes well, she doesn’t handle stress well.

I’m really hoping she doesn’t freak out because Sandy (her bonded mate) won’t be with her at the vet for her surgery. I brought Sandy to the vet for her last appointment but I don’t know if I could just bring him for the car ride with her. Any recommendations?

Sounds like it’s a good idea to have it taken off.

How does Sandy do in the car? If it isn’t stressful for him, then I don’t see the harm.

Sandy doesn’t seem to mind car rides too much. I’m just hoping if we do decide to take him along for the ride he doesn’t think we did something awful to Starlight.

I always bring both buns to the vet, even if one can’t actually stay with them at the vet. I will also bring the other bun with me to pick up the poorly bun from the vet, so they have the car ride to get reacquainted, and have never had an issue.

I have decided that it’s best to bring Sandy along for the ride. I am hoping he won’t be too upset once he’s home and waiting for the vet to call to let us know Starlight’s surgery went ok.

I think he will be ok! And sending some good vibes for Starlight!

UPDATE! So her surgery went well. I am currently waiting on the biopsy results from the lab to find out if it’s cancerous or not, but that could take a week or more.

The recovery was a bit rough but I expected it since she never handles going to the vet well (she gets GI stasis every time from the stress) As of right now she’s eating hay so I’m happy about that.

For just getting out of the vet and from surgery and now eating hay, it actually sounds like recovery is going really well! So glad to hear.

Biopsy came back yesterday. The result was trichoblastoma, which I guess is a benign skin tumor. I’m just relieved it’s not something worse.
