Is it normal for spayed rabbits to have smelly poop? Pumpkin has been spayed since February this year but for the past few months her poop has stunk VERY bad. It really only stinks when she’s out of her pen playing and then goes back in to use her litterbox. When she’s inside her pen with the door shut it usually doesnt stink. I dont know how to describe it other than the fact that its very strong and I usually have to leave the room for a while afterwards because its so bad.

Not sure if this is related but shes also been pooping outside her litterbox. She wont eat hay unless its on the floor next to her water so that may be part of the issue but recently 90% of her poop ends up outside the litterbox. I usually leave the bag of hay out for her while she’s out of her pen playing but now when she eats from it she’ll poop there too. As soon as I see it I put it all into her litterbox but that doesnt seem to do anything. Any ideas to get her to stop this?

Bunnies like to poop where they eat, so it isn’t unusual for bunnies to poop while eating hay. As for the smell, has anything changed in your household? Any new pets? Anything that would cause her to feel like she needs to mark her territory? Even spayed bunnies can leave territorial poops. You can tell the difference because they are kind of shiny and they smell like onion.
