Hi, I noticed this morning that my bunny has some redness around the left eye. Her right eye is completely clean. I’m not sure if it’s something serious but I will be taking her to the vet. Is there something I can do before the vet? I’ve read that some bunny owners put chamomile tea bags to calm the irritation, i don’t know if I should give it a try. She’s eating and binkying all day I really don’t know where this came from, but her overall health seems pretty good.

You can try rinsing it with saline (I use eye wash for humans, plain saline, without borax).

Vets often recommend a warm (but not hot, obviously) compress on the eye. Chamomille has some antiseptic properties. The rabbit might find a warm compress soothing.

The cause for this could be any number of things, from simple stuff like having been poked in the eye with a strand of hay or hair getting stuck under the eyelid, to really serious things like a dental problem. So if it persists even after you’ve rinsed it a couple of times, it’s good if you see a vet to get it looked at.
