        Hi everyone,

We just adopted a new buns about a week ago, and bought our first house about a month prior. We’ve been working on bonding him with our current buns, but have run into a bit of a weird issue. He likes to pee by the baseboards of our walls, which soaks into it a bit. We do our best to clean pee up right away, but it’s pretty clear and hard to see, and also hard to fully clean up as it really gets back there!

Now, while cleaning the past few days, we’ve noticed an earthy/musty sent in the buns’ room, and our worst fear- is it mold??? We sniffed around like maniacs trying to find the source to no avail, but still both can definitely smell it.
Has anyone else had this problem and if so did the smell actually end up being mold? I should say this smell came up only after the adoption so we’re pretty sure it’s nothing else, and I should mention we live in the PNW so mold is a major player! But I’m not sure if there’s another explanation?
thanks to anyone who can provide any insight, just worried for the babies health and our own 🙁

Hmmm, without seeing or smelling it, I really can’t say.  If you are really concerned the safest course of action may be to get a mold inspection….

Can you protect those wooden areas with some vinyl sheeting to make sure it’s not continually getting wet?

Could the smell be the bunnies themselves? Bunnies can be more smelly during bonding… it’s more of an onion-y smell than earthy though.

We are definitely gonna do a mold inspection to be on the safe side! We just think it’s so weird that we can’t smell it when we start sniffing around the carpet, but I think I’m going to move them to a non- adopted area until they’re bonded and having a little less territorial accidents. I was hoping I’m just being crazy, we only had the buns a week and I can’t imagine we’d have mold growth already, especially when we’ve been diligently cleaning!
