Was on a walk when I spotted a wild bunny out in the open in the grass, breathing heavy and keeping her head lifted towards the sky. Not running away or anything. I picked her up and put her in a carrier because there are a lot of coyotes around here. The only wildlife rehab place anywhere close to me won’t take her and the vet that sees rabbits at my vet’s office isn’t in on Mondays. What should I do?! I want to put her in a spare bathroom but it’s right across from the room my bunnies are in and I’m worried about diseases spreading?? Please advise. She’s very unbalanced and won’t put her head down.

To add on: It’s currently the morning here, she has some clear fluid running out of her nose. I put a warm water bottle in with her as well as hay. Very worried, I don’t want this poor baby dying in front of me. I should also note that she’s full-grown or at least very close to it.

Thought I’d update that we ended up finding a vet that takes in injured and sick wildlife but she had a heart attack and died while being evaluated. Blood came out of her when she was gone and they suspect she had a severe infection. Not the ending I was hoping for but at least she’s at peace now.

It was kind of you to try to help this rabbit, I’m sorry it didn’t survive. Be extremely careful to decontaminate everything that contacted this rabbit, as blood coming out is a symptom of RHDV (Rabbit Hemorrhagic Disease Virus). It is highly contagious and resistant to most forms of disinfection.

Here is some info about it: https://rabbit.org/resources/rhdv/
