my rabbit tore his nail while he was at the kennel when we were away.

I was told it bled but they were able to put something on it and they monitored it for a bit.

my rabbit was acting normal and it stopped bleeding.

I’ve been noticing that he has been licking his paw a lot. But he seems like he is acting normal

it’s hard to pick him up because he doesn’t like it and he scratched me the last time I tried to pick him up.

        any suggestions

I’d just keep an eye. Check how he moves. Does he seem to avoid moving around? Will he come for a pellet if you offer one? Does he put weight on the foot with the hurt nail?

Rabbits do hurt their nails sometimes. It can bleed a little. It’s as a rule not a big problem, sometimes the nail grows out crooked though. A nail like that can sometimes need more frequent trimmings so as not to interfere with how the bun puts weight on that foot.

Thank you. He seems to be running fine. The only problem is he won’t let me pick him up to check his nail

any suggestions on how I should pick him up without him freaking out and scratching me? Last time I tried to pick him up he scratched me pretty good.

I will try today to see if he comes to me for a treat

You can burrito him in a towel and then just pull the foot out. It wouldn’t be a bad idea to clean it up. However, it may not be necessary. When a nail bleeds, it tends to bleed enough to flush everything out of the wound. The nail may or may not grow back. And if it does grow back, it could grow back crooked. It just depends on how damaged the quick is.
