We went away for a week, and we had a sitter come feed our bun once a day. Now she is acting very slow and not like herself at all.
        we think it could be:

1: that pellets were given first, so bun ate the pellets when being super hungry which messed up her digestion, creating pain or something and giving her stress.

2: just stress from us being gone for so long because she is very social with us, sleeps on the bed with us and follows us into any room.

3: she was too hot, because we left windows open and we never turned on ac cus our house stays cool but maybe now it got d too hot at some point.

it’s the second day that she’s acting like this, it looks like she’s improving but I’m just wondering how long will her recovery be and if there’s anything else to consider?

It could be a combination of things… is she eating and pooping ok? Is she showing any other signs of pain? She could have also gotten a bit dehydrated.

If she’s eating and pooping and not showing signs of pain, then I think it would be OK to continue to monitor. But if she seems to be getting worse, and/or stops eating or poops get smaller and fewer, then she should be seen by a vet.

Keep offering lots of hay, water, fresh wet salad greens. It’s OK to skip or reduce pellets if you think they were contributing to the issues and you need to get her hay appetite back on track (as long as she eats her hay).

Ok I was thinking that as well, thank you! Yes she is pooping well, just eating a little less I think.

Ok that’s good, then yes I think keep monitoring and offering her lots of hay! I like to offer handfuls of hay in my buns faces frequently when I suspect something is off with them.

Have you been gone for an extended period time before? If this is the first time and she is really attached to you, then it could have simply been stress. I agree with Dana. If she is eating/pooping, then just keep monitoring. Hopefully she will snap out of it after a few days.

Yes you are exactly correct, because usually she would stay with my parents who have a dog, and after the 1h drive there you would think that she would be stressed but no it’s like her primal instinct awakens there and she bosses everyone around there and even the dog is scared of her!! Haha. But this time my parents couldn’t take her so it was her first time alone for more than 24h 🙁

                    How is she doing today?

Did you have a pet sitter checking on her during the time you were gone? Since problems can pop up and become serious within 24 hours, it’s best to have a pet sitter come twice a day just to make sure they are still doing well. Sorry if I misread your post though!

I agree with Dana, it would be better if someone could at least check on her more often. Her staying with your parents though sounds much more ideal. This way she is being monitored and getting plenty of attention, even if that “attention” is simply having the sounds of people around.

Hopefully she is doing better now.

I thought once a day was enough, but I guess not. She is doing better, but she was in bed with us in the evening and I noticed she was eating almost ALL the poopies she was making….so I’m thinking maybe something with her digestion did get out of balance. Maybe she knows that she’s not digesting them well, so she eats all of them. Before she would only eat one poopie once in a blue moon and the softer wet ones.

Seems like she is 98% back to her normal self, she now runs to the door to the outside and even tried to bite me a lil when I didn’t let her go outside, which is very her lol she’s spoiled. But seems like it took her 5 days to get back to normal…which is crazy because after a car ride it only takes her an hour. I guess we won’t be going away anymore 😛

Some bunnies can stress themselves into GI upset, so I’m not surprised. It sounds like she very much needs to have people around.
