        Hello everyone,

I have a holland lop named Simba, is a little over six months old. He is super energetic, always jumping, hoping, and chewing his wooden toys (well, okay, sometimes the walls as well). He is roaming free.

Yesterday evening, his upper lip appeared swollen, and I would be tempted to say it appeared after he tried to jump on my bed and missed, causing him to fall (thankfully he seemed to have fall back on his four paws). I supposed he may have hurt his lip in his fall, maybe against the nightstand. I checked him after he fell and did not seemed hurt in anyway, he jumped successfully minutes after.

I contacted my vet via email and included pictures of his lip to have her opinion because I am really worried, even if he does not seem in pain. However, my vet is only working Monday-Tuesday, so I am not sure she will check her emails. I am even more concerned since I am going abroad for ten days this Sunday, and Simba was supposed to be watched and care for by my friend.

This morning, I looked at his lip again and it seemed less swollen, but I am not 100% sure. He is eating and drinking as usual, and doest not seem bothered. Poops are also as usual and I did not notice any changes in behavior.

I am including pictures below (picture labeled with “1” are from yesterday night, pictures labeled with “2” are from this morning). I would love to have your opinion on this matter. Thank you for your help!

          He’s totally adorable!

He could’ve hurt his lip when he fell, but if he’s eating and pooping like normal, I dont think its very worrisome. It’d be good though if you could check his incisors. Maybe someone else could hold him in their lap while you gently lift the lips and have a quick peek? He could’ve broken a piece off of an incisor, and althouhh it will eventually grow back, it’s good to know that it has happened so you can keep a close eye on eating habits and poop etc.

              Hello Bam,

Thank you for your advice and kind words; Simba will be really happy to hear that you find him adorable aha! I checked his teeth to the best of my ability this morning, and they seemed fine, but I will double-check to make sure. Hopefully, the swelling gets better soon, but I will monitor it and bring Simba to the emergency vet if necessary.

                Update:

The vet told me to monitor the swelling and to have it checked if it becomes worse or if I notice any changes in behavior.

I got home from work, and the swelling had significantly decreased. The teeth also seemed as usual.

I thought we were all good, but I still took a picture to take a longer look, and now I feel like his whole nose is swollen, but I may be paranoid. I wanted to include today’s pictures below and two older pictures for reference but it is not letting me do so 🙁

I’ve sent you a PM about pictures.

Its very good that you’re taking pictures. Its impossible to remember how things looked.

Thank you Bam for your PM on how to add pictures!

Uploaded above are the evolution pictures, 3=yesterday, 4=this morning, B=before the swelling.

Simba is still behaving as usual, and he is still grinding his teeth when I pet him, so I suppose he’s not in pain.

Based on the pictures, I believe Simba’s lip is back to normal (?)

Thank you all for your help and kindness!

I think his lip looks good! There’s practically no difference between the B and the 4-pictures.

I think he’ll be fine. Keep keeping an eye of course, but I dont think I need to say that 😃

I’m looking at the photos. I think the swelling has gone down too.
