        Hello everyone,

I am planning on moving my rabbit from a singular room to the entire floor downstairs! 😀 She has been living in that room for a year now, so I am unsure how I can easily transition her from there to an entirely new place. Do you have any tips for moving a rabbit within a house? I am assuming I will need to set up an x-pen again until she is at ease with the environment.

        Thank you!

Setting up an x pen at first is a wise move! That will help her feel secure, at the same time as she gets acquainted with the smells and sounds and looks of her new surroundings. She will also use her litterbox better if she starts out with a smaller area than a whole floor of a house.

She will need more than one litterbox once she gets to roam the whole floor, but its still important that she has a place of her own where she feels safe and secure. A hidey house and a tunnel are great retreats for rabbits. They still retain the instict to hide “underground” like their wild ancestors, in the event of sth scary.

It helps to move the litter box while it’s somewhat dirty, and move any blankets, toys, etc down unwashed as well. Buns are very scent oriented so having some familiar things will help her feel at home more quickly.

I’m sure she’ll do just fine!

I did this type of transition with my own bun last fall. She cautiously explored the new extended area, little by little, but she didnt seem phased by it. She found nice spots for herself to spend her daytime lounging in -sometimes under the bedroom bed, sometimes under the living room sofa sofa. In the evenings she likes to watch tv from the top of her doll bunk bed.

She has two litterboxes and two waterbowls.
