While there is currently no vaccine for RHDV2 in Australia, and we only have access to the Cylap vaccine, I just read this interesting letter that was posted on a Facebook group from one of the Ministers. While it is clearly early days (and the Australian Government is really dragging their feet on this one) it does at least show some promise, here’s hoping we end up with the vaccine.
I’m not sure how the picture is going to show up, so if you’re struggling to read it the important part says
“I am pleased to advise that the Department of Primary Industries, NSW are submitting an application for the registration of a multivalent vaccine that will protect against infection from the RHDV1-CZECH, RHDV1-K5 and RHDV2 viruses. The research associated with this trivalent vaccine has passed the progress with the RHDV2 vaccine and offers a superior long-term solution. Although this vaccine has been shown to be very safe and effective in a research environment, the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicine Authority (APVMA) has indicated a requirement that this vaccine undergoes additional extensive safety testing in large numbers of pet and commercial rabbits. Full registration of the vaccine with the APVMA is anticipated within 2 years.”
