Still have not heard what is wrong and this was the only emergency vet willing to see a rabbit after hours.

There is some sort of abcess or growth that popped up in the front of my rabbits mouth. My rabbit is neutered male, 10 years old and was checked out by a vet 3 months ago who said he was fine. He seemed his normal self. Honestly, I don’t know how long this abcess has been growing as it was covered by his top lip. I got him as a rescue and he was never easy to handle—always required two people to clip his nails or check his butt. But I hadn’t noticed any abnormalities in behavior. He is bonded to another senior rabbit so it’s hard to say if he’s been eating or drinking normally as they eat and drink and live together.

I was hoping someone could look at this photo and tell me what on earth I’m looking at.

I’m sorry! I hope you’ll get help soon!

It looks more like a tumor than an abscess to me, but it’s difficult to assess a growth like that from photos.

Oh gosh! Yes, it’s hard to tell just by looking. But I agree with Bam that this looks like some kind of tumor. The texture reminds me of a papilloma. There is an oral papilloma virus that affects rabbits. But the texture could also be the result of the tumor protruding from the mouth and drying out, so it’s hard to say.
