Hi, i woke up and found this pile of poops in my buns litter box.

They are moist, round but mushy, and very smelly. The one on the bottom is like 5 poops sticked together.

I haven’t changed pellets and my bun only eats pellets and hay. I have NO ideas what could be wrong. She is eating and behaving normally.

Could she digest anything? It only happened when she was eating lettuces but like a month ago i cut them off and she had perfect poops. She also had perfect poops along with this pile. What could be the cause? 🙁

When there is perfect poop as well as some sticky poop, its generally known as isc, intermittent soft cecotropes. It means there’s some sort of microbial imbalance in the cecum. It’s not alarming, if it persists, the first thing to do is to try and tweak the diet, as a rule towards more hay and less pellets.

Is she eating a good amount of hay?

Yes she does eat hay all day. She is always munching on it.

Oh so if it’s ISC it can happen here and there?

Round and smelly, yet still being the same general size as normal poops makes me think territorial poops (especially if there appears to be a sheen to them). My Fable has territorial poops very often, likely in reaction to be housed separately with another rabbit, therefore facilitating the urge to leave those more potent smelling poos, though how much of it is by her own volition, I don’t know (as I have never had her without the other rabbit).

As @Bam mentions, if it’s not happening often, I wouldn’t be too concerned considering they are of good size still and not overly mushed/malformed.

Territorial? I don’t think they would be in litter box and she is already more than a year old. They were stuck together you know? Kind of round but mushy

                    1. From my experience (with Fable), doesn’t really matter in litterbox or not — they sort of just happen. Fable only poos in her litterbox therefore all those funky poops land there too!
                    2. Are they filled/linked with fur perchance?

Reading that she has good hay appetite makes me less concerned about it. While the golden standard is those dry, crumbly, lighter brown poops all the time with no exceptions, there are rabbits who are very much healthy, have a good diet, and don’t really have those poops all the time. Having some variation can be normal as long as the majority is that healthy poop and you’re not seeing other signs of abnormal health.

Okay so this happened. My bun was pressing her tummy to the floor in the evening. I immediately gave her gas drops and tummy massage. It seemed to help because she immediately went to the litterbox. She left there a whole lot poops linked together with fur along with perfect golden poops.

Could this be the problem that the linked poops and fur got stuck and she just couldn’t get them out. Like she passed the blockage.

Yes, linked poop mans there’s some sort of gut slowdown. It is often related to shedding. A gut slowdown can cause gas build-up. It’s not uncommon that a splotch or sticky lump is the first poop a bun has after a bout off gas/gut slowdown.

Didn’t want to make a new post so i will ask here. My rabbit doesn’t poop throughout the day from like 9am until 5pm. Then she has completely normal sized poops and she poops through the night normally too.

Is this normal that she won’t go on toilet through day?

Yes, it is normal. Daytime is “lounging-time” for rabbits and their GI tracts. Rabbits are crepuscular, meaning they’re mostly active in the mornings and evenings. With activity, you get  poop. This is more marked in adult rabbits and less marked in youngsters. It’s how it’s supposed to be.

Oh really? So it’s normal for her to not poop for like 9 hours in day?

She does poop normally at night how i said. I was worried she is getting i. GI stasis or something but she is eating and drinking normally.

If she’s eating and pooping normally, I’d say its normal, but it’s very good that you’re keeping a close eye.

An early sign of stasis is decreased appetite. This can be difficult to notice, because we always feed our buns a lot more hay than they’ll eat. It should be visible in the poop though, if a bun eats too little, the poop will get smaller and darker (aka peppercorn poop). This can happen overnight though, so its good to be vigilant.

No no she does eat normally hay, pellets and drinks water 🙂 my only concern was that she goes whole day without pooping but then produces normal pellets of poops from evening to morning
