        Hi everyone!

i recently got a 2 month old Holland Lop, female, specifically I brought her home 4 days ago. The lady I bought her from suggested I give her Timothy or orchard grass hay and the green pellets she sent some with me.
I was wondering, should I give her alfalfa hay? Although she mentioned that Timothy/ orchard would be better? How many pellets should I give her daily?

        thank you

The green pellets you were given are probably alfalfa pellets. When I got my bunny at 8 weeks last year, I gave him Timothy hay with some alfalfa hay mixed in and alfalfa pellets. Giving the mixture helped so that he didn’t resist it when he got older and was transitioned to primarily eating Timothy hay (to prevent too much calcium/bladder sludge). I have heard that some bunnies that are only given alfalfa hay to eat, have trouble adjusting to Timothy or orchard hay as adults…

We still mix a bit of alfalfa hay as a treat for my bunny every once in a while though😁

Hi, thanks for responding! Yes I’ve been giving her Timothy& orchard grass mixed in but I will get a small bar of alfalfa hay as well and continue to give her the alfalfa pellets. Should I continue this diet until she’s 6 months old?
            thanks 🙂

For a 2mo rabbit, it is recommended to be on unlimited alfalfa-based hay and pellets to match the rapid growth she’ll be doing until ~6mo! : https://wabbitwiki.com/wiki/Diet#Age

“Unlimited” is a big amount and refill when needed essentially. Ideally, you want to be observing regular hay consumption in addition to the pellet consumption.
