Hi everyone. I know that rabbits can develop enterotoxemia from certain medications due to a Clostridium overgrowth, but can rabbits contract C. Diff from humans? For example, if a rabbit owner had a C. Diff infection, would they still be able to interact with and care for the rabbit (change their food, water, etc.)? Does C. Diff only affect the rabbit if their normal gut flora is compromised or would they be able to contract it from a human?

It’s not likely that a healthy rabbit would get  c diff unless its normal gut microbiota was disturbed. This is why certain antibiotics should never be given to rabbits and some antibiotics only be given by injection, never orally. That said, a person that has c diff should always take great care to wash hands etc.
