A young male generally copes very well. Its a quick and minimally invasive surgical procedure..With adequate pain relief he’s unlikely to be interested in his surgical incicions. You should make sure he eats sth before you go to bed the night after his neuter. You can also give him a warm waterbottle, but he must have space enough to move away from it if he wants to.

Check the incision area daily for undue swelling. I ask someone else to hold thev bun so I can take pictures. Its good to take pix, because if you feel uncertain you can post the pics here and we can help assess them.

Alright thank you..yeah I was worried about him not eating as well..do you think it’s likey he won’t want food? Also he’s a free roam bunny usually, I should keep him in his Xpen right for a few days or not?

You don’t have to keep him in an x-pen for several days, unless your vet specifically tells you to. And I do think he’ll eat, but its wise to be prepared for if he doesn’t want to eat. Some fragrant herbs (parsley, cilantro etc) can often help spark an appetite.

Okey thanx..yeah I keep parsley around as a treat anyway..I’ll definitely take a pic of his incision and keep an eye..I don’t have to keep him from running around, I assumed I would for atleast a few days cause he could hurt his incision or something if he jumps up?

For the first couple days yes, restriction is recommended so he does not accidentally strain and disrupt the wound healing.

The usual guidelines are to keep buns from jumping or running for at least a few days so they don’t pull suture.

If he hasn’t eaten by the evening before you go to bed you should syringe feed him. Some buns just need a syringe feeding or two to perk back up after anesthesia.

Bunny should be restricted for a few days, but that doesn’t mean he has to be locked up 24/7. He can come out to explore. You just want to discourage him from running around too much and jumping on things.

What do I syringe feed him?

The easiest thing is recovery formula, Like Oxbow Critical Care. Vets often sell that. It’s a powder that you mix with water and give in a syringe. But if you can’t get that, pellet mush will do. You soak pellets in water until you get a runny “porridge” and feed it with a syringe. Young boys often only need one-two feeding, if any at all. And as Dana also said, feed before you go to bed if he hasn’t started eating by himself by then.

And as LBJ says, he doesn’t have to sit in a cage for days, he can come out and explore. But binkies and jumping and climbing should be discouraged.
