        Hi there,

I have had my mini lop bunny for 2 months and he has never exerted any problems, but recently I have noticed what I first thought was some kind of inflamed area, sore or rash as well as flakes of dry skin in large pieces have began appearing on his neck.
I have tried to get pictures of the area but struggled as he is still a bunny and he seems hesitant to let me access the possibly painful areas.

help is much appreciated, thank you 🙏

It looks like it could be fur mites, cheyltiella parasitovorax.

It’s a very common parasite in rabbits. Luckily it’s easy to treat. Revolution (selamectin) spot-on or ivermectin (injections) are both bunny safe antiparasitics. They’re prescription only in most countries. Normally you do two rounds of treatment with some time apart.

(While we’re on the subject of anti parasitics, here’s a warning that we always post: Never use any compound containing fipronil on a rabbit. Fipronil is sold OTC for dogs and cats under a variety of brand names, f ex Frontline. Fipronil can be deadly toxic to rabbits. )

I agree. It could be mites. Treatment is simple though. Just make sure it is something safe to use on rabbits (as Bam said).
