        Hi!

I have a female lionhead who will be spayed very soon. I would like to get her a friend as I think it would make her happier. My understanding is that its best to find a male for her…is that correct? Also, should a friend be similar in size and age to her or does that matter, in your experience?  She free roams so cage size isn’t an issue. For a lionhead, she is large.

Male-female pairs are the most common and do seem to be slightly easier bonds. But F-F pairs are possible too. Size and age don’t matter at all, it’s more about personalities. Breed also doesn’t really matter… but all of that said…. anecdotally lionheads seem to prefer other lionheads. I don’t have any real evidence for this, but at the shelter I volunteered at it seemed like a trend! We joked that it was because they “knew how gorgeous they were”, LOL!

Speed dating can be helpful in determining which buns are definitely NOT good matches, but it isn’t essential.

Thanks for the response. I didn’t realize lionheads prefer lionheads! I think they’re Rockstars 😉

She loves my cat so I was thinking of trying to find another rabbit with a personality similar to his. Goofy, playful, and cuddly.

I’m not sure I can speed date my girl, just based on who adopts out rabbits around here. It makes me a little nervous to think they probably can’t meet eachother ahead of time but it seems worth the risk.

Lol, like I said, I don’t have any REAL evidence for it! And really breed doesn’t seem to matter overall! They think they’re rockstars too apparently! ha!

The other thing that seems to be somewhat predictive of whether a bun will be a bit easier to bond is whether they’ve lived with other rabbits before (either littermates or a previous bond). Usually rabbits who’ve lived with other rabbits seem to be a bit less reactive and communicate with other buns a bit more easily. But again it’s not so clear so if there if you find a rabbit you like I would just give it a shot. 🙂

Oh I was just suggesting asking about that when you are looking at potential suitors. 🙂
