        Hi all,

I’ve noticed in recent weeks that my 7 year old female bun Caramel has a really firm tummy. When she lays down and I stroke her, her abdomen seems really tight while before it was quite soft. She has been spayed and is eating & pooping normally, and otherwise acting normally so I’m not sure it can be bloat! I also haven’t noticed her losing any significant weight recently. I’m not sure if this is just something normal that seems a little worrying, or if action should be taken. Other people in my household don’t seem to concerned but I tend to think the worst in these situations 😐

If anyone has any experience or advice as to diet improvements or if we need to seek medical advice, I’d really appreciate it! Thanks 🙂

You can do a more informed check for bloat by following along with this video: https://youtu.be/iVW6Rw5rZzo

It is very unlikely to be bloat based on the timeline you describe– bloat is typically an acute, extremely severe condition caused by a blockage. The GI system is literally plugged, so a rabbit with true bloat is not going to last “weeks”…. more like days or hours unfortunately.

It may be the particular time you feel your rabbit’s abdomen area that it is more firm or simply the way a rabbit lounges can cause that to happen to. If she is eating and pooping fine, those tend to be reliable indicators that your rabbit is doing fine.
