I looked at my bunny’s eye this morning and it was red, had some type of discharge on it that was sort of sticky and caused her fur to mat. The vet isn’t open until Monday:( Does anyone know what I can do? She’s eating and drinking and acting fine. Pictures below.

Rabbits can get hay chaff in their eyes, and it can cause a runny eye.  I’d start with rinsing the eye out with saline. Normal saline eye wash for human is perfect.

Hopefully this will get the eye back to normal. If not, if you and you’ve repeated the rinsing several times, a vet visit is highly recommended.

Thank you for the reply! Will saline drops from Walmart be okay? Or do I need to look for a certain concentration? And how often should I rinse?

Also does it look like its pink eye or is it most likely the hay chaff?

Sorry for a lot of questions..

Medicinal saline is 0.009, meaning 0.9%. You dont need any fancy stuff to rinse out an eye. Just make sure the solution you use is normal room temp.

You can start by rinsing 2-3 times per day. If that doesnt make a difference your vet might want to do a tear duct flush.

You”ll notice pretty soon if rinsing makes a difference. If it doesn’t, a vet visit is of need.

                  That should be fine.
