        Hello all!

Okay so recently my buns pellets and veggies finished! And so just now I went to the pet store and found pellets that had only 8% protein in their pellet and so I was thinking is it good? Because so far as I’ve done my research,I saw that you have to buy rabbit pellets that has no more than 14% of protein…

Also how many times do you feed your rabbit? So far I’ve only been feeding my buns 2-3 times which consists of pellets+ veggies in the morning, veggies only for lunch and dinner..after that, they’ll eat Hays..also it’s fine if only serve them the same veggies right?😭

P.s what type of litter do you use for your buns? I’ve went to all the pet stores in my area and they only sell pine litter as wood litter! Is it okay if I use pine litter? How many times do you have to change your buns litter? I’ve only been changing them once a week..

Haha okay that’s all for now also am I lacking in anything?if so,please tell me!

        THANK YOU!(ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*.✧

The fat in those pellets is too high, I can’t see the ingredients so I don’t know if there are any dangerous ingredients in it but I would switch because the levels are not good. Oxbow, small pet select, and Sherwood have good pellets. I feed my bunnies twice a day, Pellets in the morning and veggie at night, I have been playing around with this to see which they like best. It is fine to give them the same veggies every time but they do like variety. I use Paper bedding ( Crittercare from Walmart). Lots of people use Tractor supply pine pellet stall bedding which is great, I would use it if there was a store near me. Pine wood litter is not okay. You could also order bedding on amazon instead of pet stores. Changing their litter box depends on the litter you use, the size of the litter box, and how often your rabbit goes. Most people change the litter box every 2 days, a week is too long. I do not know if you are lacking anything because there is not enough information for me to tell. What is the age and weight of your bunny? Is he/she spayed/neutered  (depending on age). What is the size of the cage? How many pellets and veggies do you give daily? Also a pic or if you know the breed would help tell if he/she is at a good weight.

Okay thank you for your advice! As for now for the litter,I use wood litter which is obviously not pine hehe and the pet store owner was also a bit curious as to why I didn’t want to buy the pine litter,,,also my buns is a chinchilla and mix angora and they seem like they are on a good weight because I just sent them to see the vet a few weeks ago..also due do the fact that Iive in Malaysia and I’m a student, the pellets that you suggested above is literally so so expensive! I do have some alternatives that has:

              Rabbits & Cavies

              Nutrition composition:

              Crude protein..min 14.0%

              Crude fat..min 2.4%

              Crude fibre..max 26.0%

              Calcium..min 0.8%

              Phosphorus..min 0.4%

              Vitamin A,D3,and E

              Main ingredients:

              Timothy hay,Wheat grass,Dicalcium phosphate,vitamins,trace minerals, enzymes &  premix formulation

also both of my buns are neutered when they were 3/4 months old..and they’re now separated due to both of them not having a true bond because they were litter mates since they were small..also because my bunny is separated both of them are free roaming in separate rooms and only stay in the playpen when I’m sleeping and also they go outside daily in the sun because I have a farm? Kinda and the space for them to play are just so so wide so yeah..the amount of pellets I give them is a spoon like the spoon that we use to eat,,just that much because I focus on them to eat veggies and hay more!Ah and I didn’t know I had to change their litter that often! I’ll start to fix my mistake straight away! Thank you very much tho for your advice!

There are many pellet brands which can meet the nutritional needs required for rabbits. Once met, then it’s more on owner and rabbit preference on the arrangement of the ingredients and such. You can see here for suggested break-downs of nutritional content: https://wabbitwiki.com/wiki/Pellets#How_can_I_tell_if_a_pellet_is_sufficiently_nutritious.3F

Pine pellet litters (pictured below) are typically kiln-dried, meaning they are actually safe. You just need to confirm that there’s nothing added to them. The most used brand is probably Tractor Supply Co.’s Horse Stall Pellets.

You can look at our RABBIT INFO section for information on housing, diet, and general care: https://binkybunny.com/house-rabbit-information/

For a bunny on a good pellet and healthy brand normally have 1/4 cup per 6 lbs but it varies. Some don’t even eat pellets. If they are at a good weight I won’t worry about changing the amount you give them. I don’t know where you are so I don’t know how high the risk for RHV2 is, but in case you didn’t know RHV2 is a deadly rabbit virus spreading like wildfire. Having them outside right now isn’t the best idea.

Oh I didn’t know,,so does that mean I can’t bring my rabbit out to play nowadays? They are both indoor rabbits so don’t worry! And yes..I heard some people don’t give pellets at all but by not giving pellets..I heard that you have to be careful and stricter on their diet.. anyways THANK YOU FOR ALL OF YOUR ADVICES!

The OP said they are in Malaysia. I don’t know if has been detected there or if there is a wild rabbit/hare population there that can spread the disease. There was a documented case in Singapore though earlier this year.

Recommendations for pellet nutrition analysis vary. This pellet looks to be decent. The fiber is high (which is most important). Wick provided a good link that shows different recommendations.

For litter, pine shavings are not good. Pine pellet litter is fine. Paper pellet litter is fine as well.

Also, sometimes you can find the exact same item….litter, cleaning products, etc.,… cheaper if marketed for cats, rather than small animals.

                        Why…???  No idea.

I use the crumbled paper litter, same brand, same product and about $4 cheaper to buy the cat version…same with cage/litter box box wipes.

So true! And even cheaper still if you can find it for horses!
