hello! i’ve had my bunny mochi for almost three years (i adopted her from a shelter) and still has not shown any signs of affection, she only likes being petted when she is sleeping/close to sleeping. she eats well (and gets snacks), sleeps well, grooms herself, and gets to go outside often so nothing seems wrong in terms of health. but she does not like being held (she still has not gotten used to it) and does not like being petted nor does she try to cuddle with me. how do i get her to like/be interested in me more? thank you

Some bunnies are very “no-touchie”. It doesn’t mean there is anything wrong with them… it’s just the way they are. These bunnies often show affection in other ways. For instance, it sounds like she is comfortable enough around you to allow herself to sleep deeply. So at least you know she trusts you! To be honest, I don’t think you should stress about her lack of interest in cuddling and, especially, her lack of interest in being held. Most bunnies do not like being held and a lot only want to cuddle on their own terms (i.e. on the floor).

Have you tried hand feeding her pellets? That is a good way to strengthen your bond. Also, some people try clicker training. Teaching her a few simple tricks might make you feel closer.

I was also going to suggest clicker training as a nice way to bond with her. Just like humans, bunnies have a wide range of what they like. I agree that she sounds like she trusts you a lot. Most of my buns have specific times when they would like pets, other times they are busy! lol

I agree with the others. I have had a bunny who was very non touchy before and it helped for us to get down to her level, lay on the floor and let her eat treats off our belly, back, head, anywhere to get her used to us as a whole person and not just legs or arms.

There is also a ‘happy hour’ of cuddling for some buns, our boy is cuddly but only around resting times and evening relaxation time, if he is active he is far to interested in playing, eating hay and chewing to cuddle. If you haven’t yet identified you buns pattern yet you could try and figure it out.

Like the others have said, i think most bunnies dont like to be held. One of mine is very people friendly and trusting but if I try and pick him up all hell breaks loose and he runs around as if I’m about to murder him…. So I would definitely focus on building her confidence with floor pets etc.
