Hi there… so long story short my rabbit got her nail snagged (they were trimmed appropriately, she just got stuck) and now it’s sticking out sideways, perpendicular to her paw. I can see the quick and can’t trim it down at all, it appears that the nail itself was almost pulled out a bit… I can tell it’s causing her pain and she can’t walk normally. Is this something that requires a vet or will resolve itself? Thanks in advance! 🙂

Can you post a pic? From what it sounds it seems like the vet would be a good idea but I don’t know because I can’t see what it looks like.

I agree that you should have a vet check her out, it sounds like perhaps a toe was broken.

Thanks for the pics. I think with how it’s sticking out and since she’s showing symptoms of pain she should be checked out by a vet. And definitely get her nails trimmed fully, they are very long.

Agreed that based on photos, veterinary assessment would be appropriate. A rule of thumb once you’re able to routinely clip nails is that it you should not be able to see the nails peeking out of the fur (for the main nails; the dew claw will likely peek out due to the angle, but schedule clipping it when you see the other nails peeking out). This ends up being about once a month or slightly longer for most rabbits I’ve worked with.
