I have a 5 month old Netherland Dwarf and her litter box habits have been great up until a couple days ago. Now when I let her out for play time, she pees and poops all over the floor, which has never happened before. She still uses the litter box when she’s locked inside her cage. I know this could be because she is unspayed, but this was a very sudden change. There has been no change to the environment and she seems to be acting normal otherwise. Her pee and poops looks normal as well.

Should this be a cause for concern if this persists? Or I should I wait it out until I get her spayed in a couple weeks?

Haha! It’s very normal.  This is a classic case of hormonal marking.

She might not do it in her cage because she doesn’t want to have to sit in it.

I agree, her hormones have kicked in! Things should improve after she’s spayed, but it may take a few weeks for her hormones to settle.

Ah ok that’s good to hear, thanks!

Will I have to retrain her after she’s spayed or will she ‘remember’ by herself?

Sometimes hormones are like someone switching a light on. One day they aren’t exhibiting hormonal behaviors and the next day they are.

Usually things improve on their own after spaying, but it can be a bit up and down over the course of the few weeks after, and a bit of training might speed the process a long a bit.

Most go back after being spayed but some need to be retrained again. Fox Valley Animal Welfare League is a very good place to get your rabbit spayed if you live around and haven’t already figured it out. They are great at it and very affordable I Think it is 90 or 100 for a spay which is a very good price.
