My bunny, Molly, is 3 and unspayed (i know its bad I didn’t realize how important it was until recently) and i have noticed red or bloody urine for a few weeks now. I called the vet when it first started and the receptionist said it was normal and i stupidly believed her. Its been a few weeks of on and off bloody urine and today i noticed a lot of blood on her butt and feet and i looked in her litter box and there was a really large blood clot. Bigger than a half dollar. She is still eating and drinking normally (though she is always VERY food motivated) and i dont think she is in pain. I am planning on calling vet first thing in the morning and scheduling an spay asap. Can anyone give me any advice or maybe just tell me if she will be okay?

You are setting her up to be as good as she possibly can be by having a vet see her ASAP. Unfortunately, as much as I wish we could say everything will be all right, we are not vets and cannot diagnose online. But again, taking her to the vet is the best course of action.

It is a great sign that she is eating and drinking though.

It sounds like it very well could be reproductive cancer. We can’t know for sure how things will go, but I know of several rabbits who underwent emergency spays for cancer (6 and 7 year old rabbits that came into the shelter) that recovered really well. If the vet can remove all of the cancerous tissue odds are good. The fact that she’s still eating and pooping well is great (but she is probably in at least some pain… rabbits are just good at hiding it).

Do make sure your vet has done a lot of spays and is very confident with the procedure. If not, find a new vet. Keep us posted! Sending some positive vibes for Molly!

Unfortunately, there is a high likelihood that this is cancer (the other possibility is an infection). We are not vets and we have no way of knowing what the outcome will be. But, as Dana said, there are a lot of bunnies that have emergency spays because of uterine cancer. As long as the cancer is still contained within the uterus, spaying will often take care of the problem.

They think she has a bladder infection! So antibiotics for 10 days and we will see how she’s doing on friday or saturday! she has only passed blood clots once since the first time and i haven’t seen bloody urine either!

That must be some UTI if there were blood clots. Did they do any additional tests to make sure the blood isn’t coming from her uterus? An infection inside the uterus can cause blood clots too, which is what I mentioned earlier as a possibility.

Yeah the doctor said we could do an xray but it would be 80 dollars and thats kinda expensive so she said after 10 days we will see how the bunny is doing and go from there. I asked her about uterine cancer or anything like that and she said that is not very likely but we plan to spay her soon just in case!
