        Hello everyone 🙂

I have 6/7 month old Holland Lop, he got neutered almost a month ago now.
I know he can still possibly breed so won’t be putting directly in with an unspayed female for atleast another month or more. I really want to get him a buddy. He’s quiet and doesn’t exhibit male aggressive behaviours, he just peepees a lot haha

I came across the opportunity to get a very quiet 2 year old unspayed female Holland lop.
I am concerned about her being unspayed though and bringing her home unspayed.  What are all your thoughts? Thank you 🙂

I do not recommend trying any bond where one rabbit is not yet fixed. Hormones may not only impact the intact rabbit, but also the behavior of a fixed rabbit as well. Hormones are invisible and unpredictable, therefore ‘bonds’ that include at least one intact rabbit is naturally going to not be as secure and stable as one with all rabbits fixed.

Bonding aside, the risk of intact females developing cancer is quite high so health-wise, spays are very much recommended: https://wabbitwiki.com/wiki/Spaying_and_neutering_rabbits#Reasons_to_spay_and_neuter

In bringing her home, you’re likely to experience a lot of territorial marking from both rabbits.

There are stories of such bonds, but they are not the norm. Wick is correct, any bond that develops between a neutered male and unspayed female is going to be less stable than if both individuals are neutered/spayed. Hormones have the tendency to get in the way of bonding. Not only would the female feel territorial, she may experience false pregnancies if the male mounts her out of dominance. In addition, hormones in an intact rabbit can actually trigger a hormonal response in another rabbit even if they are neutered.

If you plan to bring this unspayed female home, I would encourage you to have her spayed anyway. The chance of reproductive cancer is high in unspayed females.

I would recommend getting her spayed and if you bond them she would have to be spayed. I recommend bonding them i bonded mine a little bit ago and my bunnies are so much happier.
