        Hello,

I am new here.  My current bunny is a male dusted pearl mini lop named Giuseppe.

I have had him since he was about 3 months old, now he’s a little over 5 months, and his personality is much different than my previous bunny (RIP Binky).

I have been reading up and watching YouTube videos on rabbit behavior and to be honest, he doesn’t seem to follow the “normal” likes and dislikes I’ve seen or heard of.

For example, the minute I saw him for the first time he almost jumped into my arms and as I was holding him it was like he was melting into me, so much affection towards a stranger!

He seems to enjoy his back/butt, belly and bottom of his back feet scratched/petted and he will groom me constantly when I do those things.

We play sometimes play “tag,” where he chases me til he can catch up and then will do crazy binkies until I chase him back (not aggressively but playfully of course).

He is beginning to enjoy car rides and will even react positively when I say “car ride” or get out his travel bag.

He never wants to hide, he is always flopped/sleeping Superman or dead bunny style in the middle of the room.  I can even lift his limbs and when I let go they will just plop down limply even when he is wide awake.  He will even let me cut/file his nails with no issues at all in many positions.

For such a young rabbit, it seems strange, since they are prey animals and none of this behavior makes it seem like he’s aware of that, LOL.  And it contradicts most of the things I’ve read about.

Am I just really lucky? Or am I reading him completely wrong??

Thanks for all and any input!

        -Jeni

He sounds like my newest bunny Cooper! We always joke that he’s “broken” because he shows no fear, wants to be on your lap, wants literally any attention, and grooms us constantly. You bun is maybe even a bit more extreme than Cooper, but some bunnies are just weirdos and don’t follow the “rules”.  He might change a bit (especially with regards to handling) if he hasn’t hit puberty yet, so be prepared for that (usually happens between 4-6 months).

I’ve had 7 house rabbits now (4 currently and 3 Rainbow Bridge buns), and they all have had wildly different personalities. 🙂

He sounds like an unusually affectionate bunny. Notice I said unusual… not unheard of. I don’t think there is anything wrong with him. But keep in mind that things could change as he gets older. Bunnies, in general, can become more standoff-ish as they transition into adulthood. Considering how affectionate he is now, it’s hard to say how extreme the change will be with him.

              He’s a dog dressed like a bunny, that’s all.😁

People selectively breed those nicer qualities into the lop breeds so it could be that his genetic line is actually successful.

However, due to the fact that he’s only 5 months old and you didn’t mention if he’s neutered or not, I’m hazarding a guess at pre-adult lack of hormones. The main reason bunnies are the third most abandoned pet in shelters is because of the seemingly instant change in temperament once their sex hormones kick in.

That said, all bunnies are different. Enjoy your teddy bear now and don’t be surprised if the behaviours change in the next few weeks/months.
