Is this molting or something else? Is this normal?

It’s a bit hard to see on picture for an all white rabbit, but it looks like a typical molt line.

Do you perceive your rabbit is molting? A molt line like that is big, meaning a lot of fur has been shed. Ideally, you should be the one removing all that fur, not the rabbit. Have you been noticing a lot of shed fur?

There is a line. It’s almost like a indent in the one spot. She’s been shedding like crazy. There is hair everywhere. I’ve been (thanks to everyone’s advice on a different post) brushing her twice a day when she’s eating. I don’t think the line is all from me brushing her because I just started that this week. I don’t think her bond mate has been pulling it out either.  Her fur is very rough too. Shes eating, drinking, and pooping just fine so I haven’t rushed to call the vet. They will have their yearly exam soon so I was going to bring it up then. I was curious if it looked similar to anyone else’s bun. I also wasn’t sure if they molted in July but it has been pretty hot all summer where I am.

The fur can feel rough while one “layer” is missing. Rabbits as a rule have both wool and guard hairs and they shed them at slightly different times. If she were a different color you’d be able to easily distinguish the two types of hair with your eyes, but in an all white bun there’s no color difference between the layers. Even in an all-black bun, the wool is a blueish-grey.

Shedding in July is definitely possible, esp if it’s very warm.

Some buns molt in patches, making them look very moth-eaten for a while. It’s not an indication of poor health.

ETA: It’s good to save some of the hair you brush off. If the bun ever gets a sore hock, bunny fur is the only good material to put in a sore hock bandage.

All of that makes sense. Thank you!

At this point, whenever my rabbits molt, I consider them molting, regardless of the time of year. With them being indoors, I don’t think rabbit molting is as regimented as nature designed it. If it’s hot out, I expect rabbits probably want  to shed/molt because they don’t want all that dense fur!
