        Hi guys,

Recently ive been wanting to invest in some foraging enrichment for my bun. But im wondering whether they are considered as sugary treats or something that can be an addition to the small nibbles of fruit he gets daily. I’m not sure if things like dried flowers/herbs, apple sticks and willow leaves should also be given in very limited quantities, because the way he goes crazy over apple sticks almost makes me think theres a lot of sugar in them.

Foraging mixes are not treats unless they have added pieces of dried carrot etc. Apple twigs don’t have a lot of sugar unless there’s been sugar added to them. My bun Bam went crazy for apple twigs too, he was allowed them by his bunny savvy vet when he was on a diet. He got fresh twigs from my garden, so there was absolutely no sugar added.

The only thing to keep in mind is to not give so much dried herbs, twigs and leaves that the bun fills up on them – because that will mean that the bun eats less hay. Hay is better than twigs for dental wear.

Oh ok, I’ll make sure to give it in moderation. Thanks for the advice!

Yes, dried forage items generally do not contain sugar. You can give most of them fairly freely. As Bam pointed out though, you don’t want to give so much that your bunny doesn’t eat as much hay as they should.
