Sometimes if a bun has gas, it can have difficulty finding a comfortable position. You can sometimes see how it presses its belly against the floor -it looks rather like when a person tries to do a push up but fails to keep the back straight.

Gas can be treated on suspicion with 0.5-1 ml simethicone baby gas drops, once per hour for 3 hours, then less often.

Could he have an itchy ear? Any signs of ear mites?

One of my bunnies will often flop a few times before finally getting comfy (I can relate… I always toss and turn a bit before falling asleep).

That sounds kind of normal to me, though I haven’t personally seen any of my rabbits do it for such a long time. One of my rabbits flops a lot and the other doesn’t. Their reactions to flops are different. The one who flops a lot can stay in the flop for a longer time and when she “snaps out of it”, she’ll stay generally in the same position. The other rabbit seems more shaken by flops and when he “snaps out of it”, he gets up pretty suddenly and needs to re-organize himself it seems.

I imagine flopping can shift around fur and such, so grooming after a flop sounds normal to me. It sounds like several trials to try and reach the peak relaxed position, haha.

I definitely don’t want it to seem I’m guaranteeing things are OK, but I think if this is the only behavior you’re noticing that seems ‘off’, it might just be your rabbit’s personal reactions to flopping and getting into a good napping position.

If he willingly takes a trest and is eating and pooping, I agree with Wick. Gas pain is practically always accompanied by refusal or reluctance to eat. You can try giving him a treat -if he eats it, it’s pretty safe to say he’s not in pain.

Baytril does mess a bit with the microbial balance in the gut, because it kills both the bad, disease-causing bacteria and some of the beneficial gut bacteria. This antibiotic side-effect is what the Aventi GI paste hopefully will counter-act.

You could call the vet and ask? If the Baytril is for 14 days and he is doing well on it, there doesnt seem much point in a vet visit after 10 days.

Everyone gave great advice already, and it sounds like you’re perfectly on top of it! I’ll add that my bun does this as well. he’s a huge flopper and will pass out hard for a bit, shake himself awake and fall back  asleep. I usually just attribute it to the prey animal instinct in them (gotta stay vigilant!). I also think it’s similar to us jerking awake, rolling over, and going back to sleep.

That said, When my bun is gassy I’ve noticed he does an upward dog yoga pose where he presses his lower belly into the ground. He also does this to stretch sometimes so it’s really all in the context of eating, drinking, and litter habits.
