        Hey all,

I was grooming one of my rabbits and noticed 2 skin flakes on his skin, around his back/shoulders behind his ears. Did not see any more anywhere else on his body and his ears looked clear and clean. He had an annual check up last month, the only other health issue is that he has only 1 top incisor, so perhaps it is from him not being able to thoroughly groom himself… and we also just had a heatwave over here, in case the heat/dryness could have done it.

In any case, are skin flakes on rabbits a concern that the vet should check out as soon as possible? Or can it sometimes be normal and to just keep a vigilant eye on it for now?

I know they can be vulnerable to skin disease and pests, so thanks for any insight!

I would continue to monitor at this point — I’m unclear what it is, but if it was a very small affected area and it seems healthy elsewhere, I wouldn’t be immediately concerned. I’d continue monitoring if skin condition worsens or spreads from the observed area you got these from.

It looks like dry skin that stuck to a fur clump that was falling out. Is he shedding at all? Some bunnies will get dry skin when they molt heavily.
