        Hi everyone,

I have a 7 month old female holland lop named Annie. She was spayed 12 days ago and has been cleared by her vey regarding the recovery.

(A bit of a back history)- About 3 days post opp, I had to bring Annie back to the vet because she was scratching and picking at her ears quite a bit. The vet looked in her ears via scope and said everything was completely clean and normal. The vet did not think she had ear mits, but we treated her for it (via Revolution) just to be on the safe side.

Since then Annie has developed a bawled spot on the outer part of her right ear, and when I took a closer look at it today the skin beneath that bawled spot is like a blue/purple colour.

My vet is not open on the weekends, and I am quite worried about this issue considering her ears have been an issue for the last little while. I am not sure if this is something concerning or if it is just a result from her scratching.

Otherwise she is acting completely normal.

If anybody has a similar experience, or knows any information regarding this matter could you please give me some reassurance or advice.

        Thanks 🙂

With it being close to her spay period, I wonder if there was a reaction to a blood draw or IV placed in that area of the ear. Blue/purple makes me think maybe there’s a bruise/hematoma developing  there now. I imagine her scratching it would likely exacerbate it (like rubbing a bruised/irritated area) a bit. I don’t imagine it’s something that would turn severe over the weekend, so perhaps call in this coming Monday and describe what developments are going on. Unfortunately I don’t have any suggestions on home care for this.

It’s hard to see in the picture, but the bluish tone almost looks like fur that it regrowing. Wick makes a good suggest though. It could be a bruise.

              Thank you both.

I will defiantly call the vet on Monday. Just seems odd that this is all happening so soon after her Spay.
