Hi , I just recently adopted a Holland lop mix , he’s currently about to be 4 months in a few days , but I’ve noticed his ear hair are still not growing , is it normal or can I give him something (ointment) for his hair to grow , he scratches himself but no more 2-3 times a day . If anyone can help me I’d appreciate it .

Can you describe the appearance of the skin? Does it look healthy, flaky, irritated…?

Not flaky or irritated it’s been like that since I adopted him a month ago but there is still a bald patch on his ears . He scratched himself 2-4 times a day . I just give his food to him.

I would keep an eye on it if the skin is looking healthy. Perhaps it was shaved for some reason initially and now the hair needs to grow back. It’s unusual for the ear to be bare during a shed, but I imagine it’s not impossible.

If you notice flakes, signs of unhealthy skin, or that it is spreading, rather than filling in with fur, I recommend a vet assessment.

Hmm… looks odd. In young bunnies, the fur can be thin on the back of the neck. I’ve never seen thin fur on the ears though. I agree that you should keep an eye on it.

I’ve taken him to the vet for a well ness check physically he’s fine I’m still waiting for other tests they did if he has parasites . But other than that he’s just an always jumping always binky in my room , but that’s the only thing that gets me worried because if there is anything I can do to help him grow his fuzzy ears I will

Hmmm, I’ve seen fur mites show up in that location first on non-lop buns. But usually the skin looks a little flakey. You could see about treating him with Revolution just as a precaution and see if that helps?
