Hi! I recently got a Blue Satin rabbit, and she’s been starting to get shocked when we pet her or rub on her body. She’s making a lot of static electricity and I was wondering if anyone else has found a way to prevent this. It would be greatly appreciated for any tips! I feel so bad when she gets shocked; you can tell she hate’s it and jumps away. Any and all tips or tricks would be appreciated!

Touch a metal surface before touching her? That’s about all we do.

Static electricity can be caused by very dry air in the house. It’s why taking off a warm winter sweater can be a sparkling experience.

There are indoor hygrometers which measure the humidity, and a small device doesn’t have to cost much.

If the air is dry the floor or upholstery can also cause static electricity. Putting a rubber/foam mat on the floor where your bun walks may help too.

Yeah, I was gonna say the same about the hygrometer!  We have a simple one (like $10 I think) about a foot off the ground in Teddy’s area, and then use an evaporative humidifier to keep the humidity above 35%.  Hope this works for you and your bun!
