My bunny has matted fur under her eye and it’s (sort of) pealing back.  It’s hard to see, I can try another photo of needed.  Just wondering what’s going on, and most importantly, what I need to do.

As an aside, I just created an account but have been watching this site for years.  Thank you all for your past insight.

I can’t really tell from the photo, but I think it would be good to have the vet take a look.

It looks like there is some crusty stuff.

I’d do a vet visit to check for eye infection.

            Keep us posted.

Matting is usually caused by weeping from the eye. Sometimes you’ll see crusty stuff stuck in the fur as well. This can be caused by a variety of things. This includes a foreign object irritating the eye, an eye infection, a clogged tear duct, and tooth problems. You can try cleaning it by using a warm compress to loosen the gunk. However, if the eye continues to weep then you should have a vet take a look so the problem can be properly diagnosed and treated.
