hi, ive had my rabbit for quite a while but lately ive really wanted to get a cat. i think i might get one soon but im a bit nervous about getting the kitten situated, and what parts of the house it would be in (since my rabbit has been all over free roamish upstairs) and all that stuff, let alone bonding it with my rabbit. getting a cat itself is already a big deal and getting it used to its new home can take some time so im worried about how my rabbit whos a bit skittish will deal with it and if they’d get along since im not sure how my rabbit would react but i think once they bond it can be a good companion for her and the cat would be another good one for me.

i understand i would have to get the kitten situated in its small little area for a while to get used to its home, then once its comfortable i would start to slowly introduce it to my bunny in a neutral area where neither has been in and supervise their behavior around one another.

so with all that said, im wondering if anyone who has cats and rabbits can give me some advice or if they think it might be a good idea because i really want a cat to be another one of my little friends 🙂 thank you.

There are several members here who have cats and rabbits, myself included. They won’t bond like a pair of rabbits would, but they can coexist happily. The most important thing is that the cat learns the rabbit isn’t a toy. Make sure to tire the kitty out with lots of playtime before it spends time with the rabbit. A tired kitty is a good kitty. I know you were talking about a kitten, but I would recommend looking into adopting an adult cat. It will be calmer than a rambunctious kitten, and you will know what the temperament is like. Shelters are full of adult cats looking for a home, you will have lots to choose from. 🙂

My bunny gets along great with both mine and my sister’s cats for the most part (recently my bunny lunged at one of them when we were all laying on my bed, but I think that has to do with my bunny needing fixed). My bunny was a baby and the cats were adults when introduced. Two of the cats are mousers, so I wasn’t too sure at first, but it’s turned out fine. We just watched them really closely at first. The picture is a recent one of my sister’s cat and my bunny.
