        Hello all,

This is my first post, so hello everyone. I have 2 lovely bunnies, and my doe, Winnie has had an ongoing eye infection for a year. This has resulted in white plaques on her lower eye lids, discharge and inflammation. My vet referred her to an ophthalmologist, and we now (finally) have a diagnosis of eosinophilic keratitis. I’ve been doing lots of googling, but can’t seem to find many owners that have rabbits with this condition. It’s a chronic inflammatory condition of the cornea, where eosinophils (a type of white blood cell) invades the cornea and other areas of the eye, giving it a pink/ chalky/ red appearance.

Does anyone have any experience of this condition?

I should say, Winnie is now on a steroid, anti-inflammatory and another med!

        Thanks

I found a paper documenting two rabbits who have this condition. I’ve linked it here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1nXnerlWoSDBjZTRaRvNRhz6SSGbsHYKb/view?usp=sharing

The last page has the treatment and response from treatment. It seems improvements were seen with topical treatment over a course of a few weeks.

Thank you Wick 😛 , that’s so kind of you, do you have links to academic papers? How useful!

it’s useful to have this electronically, as I only have it in hard copy through my ophthalmologist:)

She’s on a steroid now, but one eye looks a bit of a mess. I’m hoping it will clear, but it’s only been a few days!

V interested in whether other owners have experience of this condition.

I use Google Scholar, and then permissions through my university to see if I can download/access those papers. The paper linked seems to be the only one specific to this eye condition and in rabbits. There is more information from horses and cats that you can find on Google Scholar.

Thank you, I didn’t think to look on google scholar. I will take a look there.
