        Hi fluffy friends,

My rabbit Oreo suffered an abscess a couple years ago. Luckily it wasn’t attached to a bone or anything like that so antibiotics cleared it right up, however it left what looks exactly like a loose dewlap on his neck. I use a water bowl because Oreo drinks a ton of water and I know bottles can be problematic for water intake. Lately he started shoving his entire face in the bowl to drink, which is cute and all but unfortunately caused him to develop moist dermatitis. That’s being treated, but I’m looking for a new watering system that will prevent his “dewlap” from getting soaked but also provide him with adequate water intake and was hoping maybe some veteran bun owners could give some advice!

Thank you for taking the time to read this and any advice would be much appreciated <3

One thing to try might be a smaller bowl. If you have to provide 2, that’s OK. Having a smaller bowl, preferably one that mounts off the floor, can prevent extra bunny parts from making it into the water.

You can always try a water bottle to see if he still drinks enough (assuming he takes to it, of course).

I did find something on Amazon that looked interesting. It was a bowl that had a jug attached to it, however the bowl is extremely tiny. Like 2 inches long and 2 inches wide I can’t imagine he’d fit his dewlap in there. I did think about a bottle to Just worried about training him to use it. I’d hope he could figure it out but the last thing I want is for him to be dehydrated

That waterer sounds interesting. If it doesn’t work, you can always try something else.

Thank you for the replies! I wanted to give an update. I ended up going with that thing I saw on Amazon and it’s working beautifully. I was worried it would be too small to get his mouth in but he’s drinking lots of water with it ! I installed a shelf on the side of the cage and drilled a hole for the nozzle. It’s perfect.

I wanted to add pictures but unfortunately it won’t let me upload on mobile. Here’s the link I’m case anyone experiences the same issue. I hope that’s allowed, I don’t see why it wouldn’t be.

That’s a very cool waterer! Seems like the perfect hybrid of a bottle and a bowl.

                  Thanks for sharing.
