Is this brand of Simethicone safe for bunnies? It’s for the new bunny, he weighs around 9-10lbs. He’s been having loud gurgling belly noises lately. He still isn’t a fan of hay yet but he likes some greens. We still feed him critical care 3 times a day. We also give him cat grass and he will eat that too.

I have used that brand of gasdrops with my buns. I cant get it here, so I’ve asked people to buy it for me when they travel to the UK 😃 (Sadly noone travels these days, of course).

My buns have all liked the taste and been willing to eat it on a piece of veg. The kind I can get here tastes fine to me, but buns hate it.

Give about 1 ml per hour for the first 3 hours, then every 2 hours on suspicion of gas. It as a rule helps within 30 minutes, if it hasnt helped at all after 2-3  hours, its unlikely to help. Its very difficult to overdose unintentionally, since its not absorbed through the GI wall. It just gets pooped out after passing through.

My guess is new bun’s GI system is still  adapting to his new (and vastly better) life with you.

Thank you Bam. The Ovol Simethicone seemed to help last night, this morning there were some solid, dryer poops in his pen. We’re running out of the Ovol so we got this brand. Thank you for the dosing info.

We are trying to get him used to greens and trying to make sure he knows that hay is food. He’s been leaving tiny poops, cecotropes, cecotrope clusters, and mushy-runny poops since we got him. His belly was also making gurgling noises since we got him, but the last couple days it seems like it’s just gurgling every few seconds when I’m with him.

He was checked out by a vet we hadn’t been to before since they’re closer. Just ran out of the meloxicam from them. I try feeling his belly when we feed him but it’s hard to get a good feel because of the position he sits in (stressed from feeding).

I hope he starts eating more hay soon.

I hope so too, because hay is obviously the best food for him. If you have access to pesticide-free fresh grass, that’s a decent substitute. Cat grass is good of course, but probably difficult to grow in more substantial quantities.

I’d keep giving the gas drops because they cant hurt. You could also try a probiotic (benebac for example), if you haven’t already  to help establish a healthy gut flora.
